Les Miserables was a film that was written by Victor Hugo to portray the social injustices that were taking place is the mid-eighteenth century. Hugo utilizes his characters in order to do this. The angiotensin converting enzyme that stood out to me the most was when he was exposing the social injustices of the legal governance through the criminal Jean Valjean.
Jean Valjean was a reprove that served 19 years for dealing a loaf of popsicle (Les Miserables). He was the epitome of what his society stood for. He was who he was because of his environs and the conditions of the 1800s. For example, because of the environment and what was going on in this cartridge holder, he was forced to steal food even though he knew it was wrong. He did what he had to in order to survive. Also, the time he served was all ridiculous for a relatively minor crime and this reflects that time period perfectly. Valjean went in an honest, devoted man and left hostile, irate, and abominable because of how wrong and unfair he was treated. He was angry at the world and he was taking it out on everyone upon his thaw (Fernie).
After Valjean was released, he came in contact with a bishop who let him in his home.



Constantly thinking about survival, Valjean tried to steal his silverware and ran. Valjean was caught but when it was brought to the attention of the bishop to confirm the criminal was Valjean, the bishop said that he gave the silverware to him. The bishop told Valjean to keep his promise of becoming a new man (Les Miserables). The bishops generosity and kindness was the reason why Valjean changed and started to sound an honest man from this point on.
After this, Valjean ended up becoming mayor and he was very wealthy. He proven who he became countless of times throughout the movie. Valjean seized every opportunity he saw to help mainly the poor, but the participation as a whole.
