The Medicated Child

The issue of the medicated child is a face-to-face one for me. My infantile woman was diagnosed in the third grade with ADD. We knew she had problems concentrating and riveting but had no hyperactivity. We were told that in girls ADD usually presented without the hyperactivity but with lack of focus and periods of daydreaming or checking out. We started with a therapist and it was recommended that she be medicated and we promptly saw a difference. It helped with her focus at school and in truth pointed out some other issues that we truly werent aw ar were echt issues. Her moods stabilized and she had less crying spells and temper tantrums. This was a young girl who to most e preciseone seemed perfectly normal, but a very low dose of a medication helped her tremendously.

Before she was diagnosed, my economize and I were both skeptical of medication kids for ADD and ADHD. They seemed desire the new fad disease for kids and that nearly all kids seemed to know it. There was a struggle between myself and my husband to really use medication. He thought that it was just the bearing she was and that we could channelise her on our own with punishment at home.

However, even with my own personal (and positive) experience with medication for my daughter, after watching the documentary I can see and do believe that some children are diagnosed and medicated when they really either dont need to be, or are through so incorrectly. With as difficult as it is to establish a definitive diagnosis when dealing with mental illness in adults, it is just as, if not more so, difficult in children. some of the signs or symptoms of some of these conditions are very similar to the way young children act normally.
